Legal Intern
We are pleased to announce the addition of the newest member to our legal team, Owen Hwang. Owen begins his summer internship as a Legal Intern, and we hope he remains with the firm in the Fall and beyond. Owen is from Lexington, Massachusetts and entering his senior year at Brown University, where he will earn his B.A. in History with Honors. During undergrad, Owen has earned outstanding grades and consistently pursued opportunities that directly relate to our firm's work.
First, Owen served as a Training Intern for the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD). There, he independently presented anti-bias “Know Your Rights” trainings to non-profit organizations, community education groups, and housing authorities. Additionally, he drafted investigative summary of case details and evaluated the positions of complainants and respondents.
After MCAD, Owen remained interested in labor and employment work. Last summer, he worked as an Investigative Intern for the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights (RICHR). He assisted the Chief Compliance Officer with investigations and resolution of filed charges of discrimination. Additionally, he reviewed case files to ensure completeness and assisted with request for information from parties.
In this role, Owen was required to analyze potential violations of anti-discrimination laws, and he composed investigative reports summarizing the details of cases and supporting those allegations which held merit. Further, he participated in community outreach for anti-discrimination trainings and designed a flier with instructions for how to file a charge with the Commission and FAQs.
Owen is motivated and his personality aligns with our firm's values and expectations as we grow.
